NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle said yesterday that over $50,000 has been spent to date in efforts for police to give back to communities in New Providence and build relationships with residents.
Rolle and several police officers were stationed at the Pilgrim Baptist Church on St James Road issuing school supplies, food vouchers, and food to children in the community.
Rolle said the community outreach initiative is a part of his wider policing plan to connect with different areas.
He noted that 1,600 packages, including food, water, and other items, were issued throughout Nassau in the various communities last week.
Rolle said when police first started doing its food drive, they spent $50,000 with the assistance of corporate sponsorships.
He said an additional $3,500 was spent on purchasing school supplies.
Yesterday, Rolle and his team issued roughly 400 schoolbags to the kids that are scheduled to return to school sometime this week.
“We wanted to come into these communities,” he said.
“This is our give back, as we interact and try to partner with these communities and build relationships. We will continue to do our part and do what we can.
“We appreciate that these are tough times and we have our corporate sponsors who partner with us to make it possible.”
He added, “We have been getting positive feedback from throughout the communities and the thing is about building trust, building relationships as we go into the various communities.
“…We get the criticisms. We on the sharp edge of the sword. We take our criticism but we also want people to know that there’s a human part of it.”
Last week, Rolle and a delegation of officers toured several areas throughout New Providence, handing out water, groceries, and food supplies to numerous residents.
Additionally, the RBPF donated 20 electronic devices to Cleveland Eneas Primary School.
