NASSAU, BAHAMAS: Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident after a 57-year-old man died when his vehicle left the roadway and plunged into the sea at Hall’s Landing, San Salvador.
Investigators say the man was travelling south along Queen’s Highway in a white Nissan Note shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The car crossed the roadway before leaving the road and plunging about four feet into the sea, where it overturned.
Passing motorists rushed to the scene, pulled the driver from the submerged vehicle and immediately began CPR before he was transported to the local clinic.
Medical personnel continued resuscitation efforts, but the man, who arrived unresponsive, was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m.
Police said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Officers from the Traffic Division in New Providence are expected to travel to San Salvador to assist with the investigation.
