Government of The Bahamas launches free energy audit initiative for MSMEs

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Government of The Bahamas, through funding from the Green Climate Fund

(GCF), is pleased to announce the launch of a Free Energy Audit Initiative aimed at supporting Micro,

Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) across The Bahamas with reducing energy costs, improving

operational eKiciency, and strengthening long-term sustainability and resilience.

Emissions Registrar in the National Emissions Registry (NER), Larissa Cartwright, said, “The initiative is an

opportunity for MSMEs to understand their energy use to identify opportunities for energy reductions and

savings. This impacts the cost of doing business, employment figures, and the availability of critical funding

that flows throughout our communities. As the Government continues to foster partnerships with MSMEs

to promote energy eAiciency and energy savings; businesses need to take advantage of Government-driven

opportunities that assist the country in transitioning towards greater sustainability and reliability.”

The Free Energy Audit initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Caribbean Community

Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), the Climate Change & Environmental Advisory Unit (CCEAU), and the

National Emissions Registry (NER).

The first phase of the programme will focus on MSMEs operating within the commercial, manufacturing,

industrial, hospitality, agribusiness, and related sectors that are located in Abaco, Eleuthera, and New

Providence.

Each participating MSME will receive a comprehensive energy audit at no cost, with an estimated value of

approximately USD $2,500. The assessments will be conducted by qualified energy professionals and will

provide: analysis of energy consumption performance, recommendations for reducing utility costs,

identification of eKiciency improvement opportunities, guidance on renewable energy and sustainability

measures, and identification of voltage irregularities and electrical issues that may impact equipment

lifespan and reliability.

The initiative forms part of broader national eKorts to promote energy eKiciency, reduce emissions, and

support sustainable economic development throughout The Bahamas.
