NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Original Patties Bakery Ltd has suffered an operational setback after an early-morning fire destroyed its stock, freezers, storage facilities and administrative offices at its Tonique Williams-Darling Highway premises.
The financial impact has not yet been determined. However, Operations Manager Jean Moseley-Culmer indicated that the company lost all of the goods stored in the affected building.
The structure reportedly housed the company’s freezers, inventory storage area and main administrative offices.
Fire Services has launched an investigation into the structural fire, which occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to a preliminary police report, firefighters responded to the business shortly after 3 a.m. with three fire engines. Upon arrival, they found a two-storey, white stone building fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control and extinguished it. However, the storage area and administrative offices on the second floor sustained significant damage.
A white, three-door Toyota van owned by the company was also destroyed in the fire.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze remains unknown as investigators continue their inquiry.
The destruction represents a significant blow for the long-established Bahamian bakery and food distributor, which supplies products to retailers, wholesalers, hotels, restaurants, schools and service stations in New Providence and the Family Islands.
Founded in 1982, Original Patties boasts of being the home of The Bahamas’ first “Hot Pattie.” The company has since expanded into a major supplier of Bahamian, Jamaican and other Caribbean pastries.
The bakery operates from Tonique Williams-Darling Highway, maintains an outlet on Blue Hill Road and distributes its products nationwide.
