NASSAU, BAHAMAS- A breakout season at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) was enough to secure Bahamian Bertram “BJ” Murray a spot in this year’s Major League Baseball (MLB) draft.
Murray, a junior, who played locally at the highschool level at the Junior Baseball League of Nassau, was picked up by the Chicago Cubs with the 22nd pick in the 15th round, number 454 overall. In his third with with FAU, Murray started and played in all 57 games for the team. He finished with a .317 batting average, 65 total hits, a team-leading 14 home runs, 52 RBIs (runs batted in) and 49 runs scored.
The All-Conference USA selection to start his pro career in the Cubs’ minor league system or return for his senior season with the Owls.
