Groundbreaking for the James Julius Catalyn amphitheater was held on Sunday afternoon at the Dundas Center for the performing arts.
The theatrical community, as well as supporters of the theatre, came out in full force for the ceremony which turned into a tribute.
The audience was treated to a free performance by members of the original James Catalyn and Friends cast.
Lowell Mortimer opened the tribute with an excerpt of Catalyn’s work displaying his ability to reflect everyday life with his unique writing style while patron of the theatre Senator Fred Mitchell spoke to Catalyn’s comedic way of delivering the truth. Other troupe members and members of Catalyn’s immediate family also shared their moments.
