NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Have you no shame? Governments energy policy is a complete and utter failure!
The Davis Administration continues to insult the Bahamian people with their utterances and excuses on BPL. This holiday weekend tens of thousands of Bahamians and small businesses had to contend yet again with a barrage of extended outages and inconsistent electricity.Simply put and by any measurement the Bahamian people are suffering because the governments national energy policy is a complete and utter failure.
Since this government came into office in 2021 despite all the promises, BPL has not been the same. First they abandoned the fuel hedge that cost Bahamians a 163% increase in light bills,. They then sold pieces of BPL in a “fire sale”and privatized Bahamian assets with promised energy reforms with no major improvements, inconsistent service and increasing electricity costs to consumers.
Even more recently the government has not been upfront and deceived the Bahamian people on announced upgrades. They have not told the truth about the massive national power disruption on July 5th that left tens of thousands without power including the nations capital, crippling businesses and paralyzing the economy. They also said they were ready for the summer but yet residents and businesses have had to deal with constant load shedding and blackouts. Notably too, The Bahamian people have yet to hear from Bahamas Grid Company who has primary and paid responsibility for transmission and distribution.
The nerve of the Davis Administration to point figures and not take responsibility for their incompetence . As Leader Michael Pintard laid out in a recent statement multiple ill fated decisions by the Davis Administration has led to this national crisis.
They have been in office since 2021, the power crisis in the country and the frustration Bahamians are facing regarding BPL is due to their failure. Bahamians don’t want excuses they want you to fix it.
