NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has ratified 19 candidates for the upcoming general election, including its leader, Arinthia Komolafe, who will vie for a seat in Carmichael.

The party’s deputy leader, Buscheme Armbrister, will run in Yamacraw and its Chairman Omar Smith in Killarney.

The other candidates include: Kino Lockhart for Bains and Grants Town; Frederick Sawyer for Centreville; Hillary Deveaux for Elizabeth; Zhavargo Black for Englerston; Ricardo Forbes for Fox Hill; Boykin Smith for Garden Hills; Lamont Nixon for Golden Gates; Antoine Ferguson for Golden Isles; Carnille Farquharson for Mount Moriah; Zerlene Ferguson for Nassau Village; Steven Nesbitt for Pinewood; Jermaine Higgs for South Beach; Theodore Russell for St Barnabas; Silas Cooper for Southern Shores; Theophilus Coakley for Tall Pines; and Mario Mott for West Grand Bahama and Bimini.

During a press conference naming the party’s candidates, Komolafe sought to assure voters that the DNA is the vehicle for change in the nation.

“The DNA represents you and a vote for the DNA is a vote for yourself,” she said.

“A vote for the DNA is a vote for your children and your children’s children. A vote for the DNA is a vote to bring political, social and economic reform the likes of which we have not seen since the 1960s and 1970s.”

Komolafe noted that the party’s candidates represent the Bahamian society from a social, economic, religious and creed perspective.

She said they have gone through a rigorous vetting process and they have been on the ground in their constituencies since last year.

She continued: “The DNA is not a new party; we have been in existence since 2011.

“We have been tried and tested in two general elections.

“We have transitioned leadership and demonstrated to the Bahamian people that the strength of our organization was not founded upon a few individuals but on the strength of the thousands of Bahamians who believe that it is the right and inheritance of the Bahamian people to be empowered to be leaders, owners and first-class citizens in our Bahamas.

“Our vision is sure, it is sound, it is transformational, revolutionary and relevant to create the new Bahamas.”
