NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police have issued an appeal for any information that can help them identify the body of a man found with multiple gunshot wounds on Bernard Road last night.
The body was declared lifeless by Emergency Medical Services, according to Assistant Superintendent Audley Peters, who described the victim as dark-skinned, 5’7” with “plait-up” hair in his mid to late-20s.
Peters said the body was found after officers at a checkpoint on Soldier Road and Bernard Road responded to the sound of gunshots coming from Bernard Road shortly before 10pm.
“The officers proceeded in the direction of the sound and they came upon the body of a male lying at the eastern boundary of the LW Young school with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the body.”
Peters said there was no evidence to suggest the killing was gang-related or motivated by retaliation.
“It has been referred on the streets that there is retaliation among individuals. There [are] no facts to suggest or support that.”
He said: “Information coming from the police must always be evidence-based and factual and so we take each matter on a case-by-case basis and when victimology is done and completed, that would establish whether persons are in gangs or related to gangs or incidents are related to gangs. So, we do not suggest that is the case at the moment.”
Peters furthered the victim was not found with any identification.
“There is nothing of interest that could assist us in even determining his identity and so we’re appealing to members of the public who may have a relative that is not home, particularly a dark male about 5’7” with plait-up hair who has not been seen in a while, that they can contact the police and see if they can assist with the identification of this victim.”
Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to contact the police at 502-9991 or 502-9992.
Peters added: “We want to advise members of the public that we continue to need their support in bringing matters of this nature to a resolution. I want to take this [opportunity] to thank members of the public for assistance in recent matters.”
