NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants released a statement on the passing of former MP and prominent accountant Philip Galanis.
In a statement, Pretino Albury BICA’s President stated: “It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Mr. Philip Galanis, a distinguished member and past president of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) from 1988 to 1992. Mr. Galanis was instrumental in advancing the accounting profession, advocating tirelessly for the highest standards of excellence and integrity.”
He added: “Throughout his career, he selflessly served in numerous leadership roles, not only within BICA but also on the wider stage, where he was elected President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC). His dedication to the profession and to his country was unmatched. Mr. Galanis was a true statesman, always committed to giving back through his involvement in politics and in other capacities that would help foster national success.”
Albury continued: “In my personal encounters, Mr. Galanis both challenged and supported me throughout our time together. I believe the former was motivated by the latter—his belief in my potential and in the importance of maintaining high standards, something increasingly rare in today’s world. Mr. Galanis will be deeply missed, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family. His memory, and the indelible contributions he made to the accounting profession and to The Bahamas, will never be forgotten. His legacy will forever be etched in our history. May he rest in peace.”
Galanis, 70 was found dead at his residence Friday morning.
