NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Forty-one men and women have officially become registered psychiatric nurses following a graduation ceremony on Friday after completing their psychiatric mental health nursing diploma program.
The 41 nurses are joining the Ministry of Health and Wellness in their mandate to better address and offer health support for mental health issues in the country.
This graduation comes on the heels of an alleged suicide committed by an 8-year-old boy on Thursday morning.
Public Hospital Authority’s managing director, Dr. Aubynette Rolle asserted that the graduate class’ enrollment could not be more timely. She noted that PHA is grappling with a shortage of healthcare professionals tasked with addressing mental illness.
Rolle expressed that their graduation is a testament to the PHA’s commitment to improving mental healthcare services.
Minister of Health, Dr. Michael Darville also lauded the addition of the 41 registered psychiatric nurses, adding that it is another step the Davis administration has taken to address mental health challenges after passing the Mental Health Bill, 2022.
