A number of the country’s elite collegiate track and field athletes qualified for the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Outdoor Championships over the weekend.
Brianne Bethel (Houston), Pedrya Seymour (Texas), Devynn Charlton (Purdue), Jenae Ambrose (Auburn), Serena Brown (Texas A&M), and Denzel Pratt (Liberty) are all be headed to Eugene, Oregon, to compete in the collegiate championships.
The races are set for June 6-9.
Bethel booked two tickets to Eugene, qualifying in both the 100 and 200 metres (m). She clocked 11.31 seconds to win the 100 at the NCAA West Preliminaries, and followed that up with a run of 23.01 seconds to qualify in the 200.
As for Seymour and Charlton, they both qualified in the 100m hurdles. Seymour qualified at the west preliminaries in 12.80 seconds, while Charlton competed in the east preliminaries and qualified with a time of 13.01 seconds.
As for Ambrose, she’ll represent Auburn as part of the women’s 4x100m relay team. Ambrose, along with Jonielle Smith, Dominique Bullock and Natalliah Whyte, clocked a season’s best 43.20 seconds at the west prelims to automatically qualify for the outdoor championships.
Over on the field, Brown qualified in the women’s discus toss with a mark of 53.87m, while Pratt qualified in the men’s javelin throw with a toss of 69.60m.
