NASSAU, BAHAMAS: A late-night shooting at Dumping Ground Corner has left two men dead and three young women hospitalized after gunmen opened fire on a group gathered beneath a tree on Wednesday night.
Police say the victims include two men, ages 24 and 32, who both succumbed to their injuries, while three females — two 20-year-olds and a 17-year-old girl — were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. Their conditions remain unknown.
According to the preliminary investigation, shortly after 9 p.m., ShotSpotter technology alerted police to gunfire in the area. Officers arrived to find five people suffering from gunshot injuries. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second later died while receiving treatment in hospital.
Investigators believe the occupants of a silver vehicle stopped near the gathering before two armed men exited, opened fire, and fled the scene. Police later recovered a silver Kia Rio believed to have been used in the attack. The vehicle had been reported stolen during an armed robbery on Market Street on July 3. The investigation is ongoing.
