Trainee corrections officer arrested after suspected hydroponic marijuana allegedly found hidden in boots

NASSAU, BAHAMAS: A 27-year-old trainee corrections officer was arrested Wednesday after authorities allegedly discovered four ounces of suspected hydroponic marijuana concealed inside his boots while he was being inspected at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS).

According to a preliminary report, shortly after 2:00 p.m., the officer presented himself for inspection in the area of the Security Processing Centre, where officials detected abnormalities in his boots.

The officer was subsequently taken to a private room, where a search of his boots was conducted.

Police said the search resulted in the discovery of four plastic wraps, two in each boot, each containing suspected hydroponic marijuana.

Officers assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information received, proceeded to BDOCS, where they arrested and cautioned the trainee corrections officer.

The suspected hydroponic marijuana has an estimated weight of four ounces and an estimated street value of $600.

The officer is assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
