Multi-million dollar The Pointe development is under the microscope once again for its labour component as the Department of Labour sent in an inspection team to take a count.

The move follows claims by Attorney General Senator Carl Bethel earlier this week that Chinese workers were observed laying blocks – a task, he said, surely Bahamians are able to do.

Labour Director John Pinder told Eyewitness News that the inspection was to ensure The Pointe was in compliance with the 70/30 ratio of Bahamian to Chinese workers.

An investigation of the site was conducted earlier this year and, at that time, officials said the hotel was not in breach of the approved labour ratio.

Meanwhile, Immigration Minister Brent Symonette said that as a result of the inspection, changes were made and some Chinese employees were reclassified to reflect the conditions under the heads of agreement.
