NASSAU, BAHAMAS: Police have confiscated two illegal firearms in separate incidents in New Providence, with one weapon discovered in a bushy area off Royal Palm Street and another recovered after two men allegedly fled from officers during a late-night pursuit.
On Saturday, 8th August 2026, police officers confiscated illegal firearms in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, according to the initial report, shortly before 7:30 a.m., officers assigned to Operation Black Scorpion, acting on information, proceeded to a bushy area on Jasmine Lane, off Royal Palm Street.
Upon arrival, the officers conducted a thorough search of the area, during which they discovered a blue shirt containing a firearm. The firearm was found without ammunition and was confiscated and processed for evidentiary purposes. No arrests were made in connection with this discovery.
In the second incident, according to the preliminary report, shortly before 11:25 p.m., officers assigned to the East Street South Police Station were conducting routine mobile patrols in the vicinity of Charles Saunders Highway when they encountered two men travelling on a black-and-white XTZ motorcycle.
Upon noticing the police, the men began acting suspiciously. Officers signalled for them to pull over; however, they failed to comply, resulting in a pursuit.
The pursuit ended near Alexandria Boulevard East, Nassau Village, where the suspects evaded police and fled.
As officers continued searching the vicinity, particularly around a building under construction, they discovered a firearm containing a quantity of ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were confiscated and processed for evidentiary purposes.
The Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force will continue investigations into both incidents.
