Police recover illegal firearms in two separate incidents

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police in the capital recovered illegal firearms in two separate incidents on Friday.

In the first incident,  according to police reports, shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8, during a special operation dubbed “Steady Da Land,” officers were on mobile patrol in the area of Dorsette Alley when they observed a suspicious male standing near a building.

Upon seeing the officers, the male attempted to escape, but he was pursued and apprehended. He was searched and found in possession of a .45 Austria pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.

The male was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged in the magistrate court this week.

In a second incident, shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit Officers, acting on information, went to a yard in the Comfort Street area, where they recovered a black .40 Austria Pistol and thirty-nine rounds of ammunition.

No arrest was made and police said investigations are ongoing.
