The late Hon Darrel Rolle, will be remembered forever in the annals of our wonderful nation. He was one of the men and women who inspired me and inculcated my love of pure service for and to our Bahamian people. As a student at the ‘real’ government High School, then located at Poincianna Drive, I well remember Darrel being admitted to The Bahamas Bar as one of the ‘top of the class’ advocates.
In fact, he, like the late Paul L. Adderley; the Hon Keith Duncombe and the Hon Eugene Dupuch were amongst those who influenced or persuaded me to go into law.
I would be remised if I did not also give maximum credit to the late Sir Kendal G.L. Isaacs, former Opposition Leader, and Sir Cyril Fountain, QC, a retired Justice of The Supreme Court and my mentor, J. Henry Bostwick, QC, for the roles they played in my professional life.
Darrel, however, was special in that he demonstrated, back then, that residents of our Family Island could aspire and rise to the top in all endeavors. He excelled as a lawyer; politician and God-fearing man; husband and father. My deepest sympathies and condolences to his immediate family and wider circle of friends and relatives.
He never, like so many current politicians, ever forgot his roots in Lowe Sound, Andros, and love for the entire nation. Darrel was and remains special. May his soul rest in peace but, in all things, to God be the glory.
