NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Grand Bahama Power Company plans to continue the storm recovery charge on electricity bills until 2026.

This extension aims to help the company recover the $15.6 million in losses caused by Hurricane Dorian. The recovery charge is 1.3% for residential consumers, 0.8% for commercial consumers, and 1% for industrial consumers.

Amid a legal dispute between the government and GBPA over regulatory authority, the power company has requested its second electricity rate hike in two years.

If approved, this would result in a total 6.3% increase over two years which was the original 2022 proposal.
