NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Government officials and dozens of residents in the Fox Hill Community have gathered at the St. Paul’s Baptist Church for the commemoration of the annual Fox Hill Day celebration.
The annual event is traditionally held days after the country observes Emancipation Day; its organizers say that it is held to create a festive period which celebrates the emancipation of of Black Africans.
Fox Hill’s Member of Parliament Fred Mitchell asserted that this tradition is upheld as “Fox Hill is the last redoubt of the celebration of pure African culture in our country, and we want this tradition to continue.”
Opposition Free National Movement Deputy Leader Shandendon Cartwright asserted to those who attended the annual church service Tuesday morning that “we are all Fox Hillians today… the greatness of the people of Fox Hill continues to be immersed in the history of the commonwealth of The Bahamas.”
