Foreign Affairs promotes precautionary measures for Bahamians in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement urging Bahamian citizens in Florida, particularly students, to take immediate precautions as Hurricane Milton approaches the state.

Some students have already been advised to evacuate their campuses as the storm intensifies. Bahamasair has announced two remaining flights out of Orlando scheduled for Monday, 7 October, and Tuesday, 8 October 2024. Bahamian students and citizens are encouraged to secure seats on these commercial flights while they remain available. Alternatively, those unable to fly can evacuate through the ports of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

In the statement, the Ministry stressed the importance of following all local authorities’ directives, including any evacuation orders.

It also advised that the Consulate General in Miami is prepared to assist Bahamians in distress. For further assistance, citizens are encouraged to contact the Consul General’s office.
