NASSAU, BAHAMAS: The Bahamian economy recorded its strongest quarterly performance since the start of the Bahamas National Statistical Institute’s quarterly GDP series, with real Gross Domestic Product expanding by 7.7 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2025.
According to advance estimates released by the Bahamas National Statistical Institute (BNSI), real GDP reached $3.9 billion in Q1 2025, up from $3.6 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2024.
BNSI said the first quarter performance represented the highest real quarterly in GDP level recorded since the series began and reflected continued economic growth above pre-pandemic levels.
The growth was supported by key industries including financial and insurance activities, accommodation and food services, and transport and storage. Under the expenditure approach, BNSI said growth was driven by increases in general government expenditure and exports of goods and services, particularly within the tourism sector.
Real GDP also increased on a quarter-over-quarter basis, rising by 5 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2024.
BNSI’s data showed real GDP growth continued throughout 2025, with Q2 recording a 4.4 percent year-over-year increase and Q3 expanding by 4.5 percent. However, Q4 recorded a modest year-over-year decline of 1.4 percent.
The statistical agency said the quarterly GDP estimates incorporate updated source data, methodological enhancements, and benchmarking to annual GDP estimates as part of ongoing revisions to improve accuracy and consistency.
