Jahvonie Akeino Montagu, a 19-year-old Jamaican national, was arraigned in court on Monday before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux for impersonating a dentist.
Montagu was charged with unlawfully practicing dentistry, advertising dentistry, and unlawfully possessing dental appliance equipment on October 28, 2018, and March 13, 2019.
The Jamaican national initially pleaded not guilty to the first two counts and guilty to possessing dental equipment. However, upon the advice of his lawyer, he re-entered a not guilty plea for all the charges.
Montagu was remanded to The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until March 21, giving the court time to verify the defendant’s official status in the country.
On March 7, Santini Kerr-Wilson, a 27-year-old Jamaican of Bonham Spring Ocho Rios, Jamaica was also charged on 10 counts of fraud while posing as an orthodontist.
