The government is on the defence about its decision to increase value-added tax (VAT) as Deputy Prime Minister Peter Turnquest in his contribution to the 2018-2019 Budget debate, called on the opposition to make its position clear on the increase.

The nation’s deputy chief once again laid the blame for the country’s fiscal mess squarely at the feet of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP).

A back and forth ensued between government and opposition members, however, the government maintained that in order for the country to come to come out of the red, drastic measures must be taken.
