NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The Bahamas imported approximately $5.1 billion in goods in 2025, a three percent increase over 2024, with machinery and transport equipment continuing to account for the largest share of imports, according to preliminary foreign trade figures released by the Bahamas National Statistical Institute.
The report showed imports rose from $4.9 billion in 2024 to $5.1 billion in 2025.
Machinery and transport equipment totaled $1.4 billion, representing 27.7 percent of total imports, while food and live animals accounted for $855.6 million, or 16.8 percent.
Other major import categories included manufactured goods at $762.6 million, representing 14.9 percent of total imports, and miscellaneous manufactured articles at $651.5 million, or 12.8 percent.
The BNSI said total exports, including domestic exports and re-exports, totalled $677.6 million in 2025.
Domestic exports accounted for $193.6 million, or 28.6 percent of total exports, while re-exports totalled $484 million, representing 71.4 percent.
Food and live animals remained the leading domestic export category at $117.7 million, accounting for 60.8 percent of domestic exports, followed by chemicals at $46 million, or 23.8 percent.
The report also showed the United States remained The Bahamas’ largest trading partner, accounting for 81.9 percent of total imports and 82.4 percent of exports.
The Bahamas also conducted significant trade with China, Japan, Panama and the United States Virgin Islands.
