ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS — Last week, the Zonta Club of Eleuthera officially launched the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence on the island.
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and MP for Central and South Eleuthera Clay Sweeting and his wife took a stand with Zonta to encourage all Eleuthera to “Say No” to violence.
Zonta Bahamas has been frontline advocates against violence for nearly a decade, well known for their “Orange the World” campaign, which is a part of an international campaign, along with the United Nations’ UNiTe campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls.
All over Eleuthera, private and public offices participated by decorating their offices orange and wearing orange T-shirts every Friday. Jewel Edwards is leading the Eleuthera efforts.
Meanwhile, on New Providence, Zontians were busy pinning orange bows on Parliamentarians in commemoration of the campaign.
Last weekend, Office of the Spouse representative Ann Marie Davis was in Englerston with Zonta Club of New Providence (ZCNP) for a community outreach effort.
On International Human Rights Day, December 10, ZCNP will hold their annual “Walk in My Shoes” campaign in Rawson Square from 10am to 12 noon.
On Saturday, December 11, Zonta and the Crisis Center will host the webinar “Behind the Veil”.
On December 12, the final webinar will examine the role of the church in ending gender-based violence.
