URCA seeks public feedback on proposed change in control of Baker’s Bay Utility Ltd.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS: The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) is inviting public feedback on a proposed transaction that would transfer full ownership and control of Baker’s Bay Utility Ltd. (BBUL) to members of the Baker’s Bay Golf and Ocean Club in Great Guana Cay, Abaco.
The proposed sale would see Baker’s Bay Investors, LLC and Discovery Baker’s Bay Investors, LLC sell their combined 100 percent ownership interest in Baker’s Bay Associates, LLC—the parent company of BBUL—to the Club’s 384 homeowner members. If approved, the transaction would result in the homeowners assuming full control of the licensed electricity provider.
URCA said it is reviewing the proposed change in control under the Electricity Act, 2024, to determine whether the transaction is likely to substantially lessen competition in The Bahamas or be contrary to the public interest.
Interested persons have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, to submit written representations to URCA by hand or via email at info@urcabahamas.bs. URCA said it will consider only comments related to competition and the public interest before making its final determination.
