URCA announces partnership with Caribe Sigma for nationwide ICT access and usage survey

NASSAU, BAHAMAS-The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) has announced its partnership with Caribe Sigma Research Company to conduct a comprehensive nationwide survey on the state of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) access and usage throughout The Bahamas.

According to the regulator, this initiative is a key part of its ongoing efforts to assess and improve universal service obligations in the electronic communications sector.

Caribe Sigma will research the availability, accessibility, and affordability of ICT services, with a particular focus on the Family Islands. The findings will help URCA develop policies that promote digital inclusion, ensuring that all Bahamians, regardless of location, have equitable access to essential communication services.

The study will collect data at both the household and individual levels across selected islands, identifying unserved and underserved communities, barriers to ICT adoption, and opportunities to improve connectivity. The results will guide targeted interventions to bridge the digital divide and foster economic and social development.

URCA is encouraging the public to fully cooperate with Caribe Sigma in this important research. The data collected will be used solely to advance universal connectivity, support national development, and ensure no community is left behind in the digital age.

Fieldwork will begin soon, with survey teams reaching out to households and businesses across The Bahamas.
