‘THEY KILLED HIM’: Family of 76th murder victim alleges police responsible for loved one’s death

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — 34-year-old Oral Roberts is now the third man killed who was allegedly connected with a $1 million dollar heist in December 2023.

Shortly before Eyewitness News’ 7pm newscast, our news team was advised that he was gunned down in the Fox Hill Community Tuesday night, and his family alleges that police were involved with his murder.

Roberts is one of the men charged with stealing and conspiracy to commit stealing in relation to a stealing incident months ago involving a bank security car at Lynden Pindling International Airport. The crime resurfaced in the public’s memory when it became linked to a scandal involving the Chief Superintendent of Police and the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department, Michael Johnson.

An internal investigation is currently underway involving Johnson after a series of leaked voice notes connected him to Micheal Fox, who was also questioned by police in relation to the crime. Fox was gunned down on Fleming Street on May 7 of this year. The other suspect believed to be involved was also murdered in January 2024.

It’s likely against this backdrop that Sands’ family members were overcome with emotion at the crime scene and minced no words when speaking to the press. Roberts’ parents, Elvis and Mizpah, emphatically claimed that police were involved in their son’s demise. They also claimed Sands was shot and killed not long after he was dropped off, allegedly by police, at a residence in Fox Hill. The mother told media members that her son expressed suspicions to her today that the police were watching his location.

Police did not share many details with media surrounding the country’s latest homicide, other than the fact that the victim was known to police and was being electronically monitored at the time of his death.
