Southworth unveils $350M transformation of The Abaco Club

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Southworth is deepening its investment in The Bahamas’ luxury tourism and real estate sector with a sweeping $350 million transformation of The Abaco Club, one of the Caribbean’s premier private club communities.

The Boston-based developer, owner and operator announced the multi-year upgrade of the 500-acre property on Great Abaco Island, describing it as one of the largest private club investments in the region. The initiative forms part of a broader ten-year development plan focused on enhancing amenities, expanding residential offerings, and elevating the overall member experience.

At the center of the transformation is The Bay Club, a newly unveiled oceanfront beach club positioned as the social and recreational hub of the community. Set along a two-mile stretch of white sand overlooking Winding Bay, the facility blends indoor and outdoor living with a resort-style infinity pool, lap lanes, a family-friendly kids’ pool, and direct beach access. The space also features a sun deck, poolside bar, and multiple lounges designed for both families and adults.

Inside, The Bay Club includes a range of communal spaces such as a family lounge, game room, boutique retail area, and an adults-only Horizon Lounge offering panoramic ocean views. The design incorporates natural textures, ocean-inspired tones, and locally influenced artwork, reinforcing a distinctly Bahamian aesthetic.

Beyond the beachfront addition, the investment significantly expands the club’s sporting and social offerings. The redevelopment of The Stables introduces new tennis and padel courts, along with a racquet sports boutique and a central social bar. Additional amenities include seven pickleball courts, a 40,000-square-foot putting course designed by PGA TOUR champion Darren Clarke, and recreational spaces such as a multi-use field and fishing pond aimed at enhancing family and community engagement.

Other upgrades include improvements to the club’s championship golf course by original architect Tom Mackenzie, as well as the redesign of The Cliff House, the property’s signature cliffside restaurant overlooking Winding Bay. The обновation is expected to enhance both the culinary experience and the venue’s position as one of the most scenic dining locations in the country.

The transformation is also driving strong real estate performance. The Abaco Club reported a near doubling of property sales in 2025, fueled by demand for new residential communities tied to the expanded amenities. New offerings include The Cays Reserve, featuring beachfront residences starting at $4.15 million, The Green with turnkey golf course cottages from $3.3 million, and The Ridge Estates, a collection of premium homesites starting at $2.1 million.

Southworth President Tommy Southworth said the investment reflects a long-term vision to create a fully integrated island lifestyle experience centered on connection, service, and quality amenities.

Looking ahead, additional phases of development will introduce a world-class spa, expanded fitness facilities, and enhanced children’s programming, further positioning The Abaco Club as a comprehensive lifestyle destination.

The project underscores continued investor confidence in The Bahamas’ high-end tourism and property market, particularly in Family Island locations like Abaco, where demand for luxury, community-driven developments remains strong.
