NASSAU, BAHAMAS – South Andros Member of Parliament Leon Lundy, who also serves as Minister of State in the office of the Prime Minister, responded to a protest held by several constituents earlier today; he advised that a roadwork contract has been signed and equipment is currently en route to South Andros.
A number of South Andros residents took to the streets of the island on Monday to protest what they deem “unacceptable conditions,” following a weekend without electricity, phone and internet services.
The residents said that the inconsistent supply of utilities, coupled with poor roads on the island, is impacting their quality of life.
Lundy claimed that the organizer of today’s protest is also aware that a contract has been signed for the commencement of roadworks on the island.
“The roadwork is now an asphalt contract for the entire island to be paved. Which was as a result of the previous contract signed by the former administration for sand seal road being cancelled a few months ago,” Lundy told Eyewitness News. “ The new contract should be about 14-18 months and now includes a water component what would pipe from the bluff to smiths hill community that will enhance the water distribution to the southern portion of the island.”
