Seniors celebrated at Bain and Grants Town Christmas party

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The spirit of Christmas filled Bain and Grants Town as Mount Olive Baptist Church, in partnership with the Bain and Grants Town Advancement Association and the Rotary Club of West Nassau, hosted a heart-warming Christmas party for senior citizens in the community.

Scores of seniors gathered for the special event, enjoying an afternoon of laughter, fellowship, and the joyful sounds of the season. The celebration brought elders together in a warm and welcoming setting, creating space for connection, encouragement, and shared holiday cheer.

The programme featured Christmas carols, warm greetings, and well wishes for a bright and prosperous year ahead. Each senior received a Christmas lunch, made possible through the support of the Rotary Club of West Nassau and the dedicated efforts of church members and community volunteers, who worked together to ensure that everyone was well cared for.

The Christmas party was held on Saturday, December 13, and formed part of Mount Olive Baptist Church’s ongoing outreach efforts within the Bain and Grants Town community.

Mount Olive Baptist Church is led by Reverend C.B. Moss, who, along with his wife Fransisca Moss, has served the community for nearly five decades. Their commitment has helped make the church a steady pillar of support in this inner-city area, which is rich in culture, resilience, and a strong sense of community.

Beyond special events, Mount Olive Baptist Church provides year-round assistance to residents in need, offering food, clothing, and books to those facing hardship. Through its weekly food drive, groceries are distributed to families, seniors, and individuals who are ill or unable to travel. In the past, the church also operated a delivery bus to transport groceries directly to seniors and shut-ins; however, that vehicle is no longer operational. Church leaders are now appealing to the public for assistance in acquiring a new van so this essential service can continue.

One of the highlights of the celebration was a lively marching band performance led by children from the community. The young musicians delighted the audience as they played Christmas favourites, with the little drummer boys adding a particularly memorable and festive touch.

Addressing the gathering, Reverend Moss reminded those present that Jesus is the reason for the season. He spoke about the birth of Jesus as the foundation of forgiveness, redemption, and hope, encouraging residents to live righteously, do good to others, and follow biblical principles. He shared that these values help to build communities rooted in love — the vision he continues to hold for Bain and Grants Town residents.

The Christmas party served as a meaningful reminder of the power of partnership and community spirit. For the seniors who attended, it was a day marked by joy, dignity, and connection — a fitting reflection of the true spirit of Christmas.
