Sandals hosts major charity event in Nassau Village

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — With a major focus on community empowerment and economic development, the Sandals continues to resort its quest to make a positive impact in the Bahamas, one community at a time.

A group of 20 managers and team members from the resort recently journeyed to Nassau Village where they met scores of residents waiting in anticipation for their announced arrival and giveaways. A sizeable donation of bag packs, warm meals, refreshing drinks, school supplies, and clothing items was issued on the day.

The event, which was a collaborative effort between the resort and Family of All Murder Victims (FOAM) was well received by the community. One resident, who was there with three of her children, was evidently elated as she sorted through the clothing items. “I am so thankful!” she expressed. “This makes me very happy. I love what Sandals is doing here today!”

Her sentiments were also echoed by FOAM’s Executive Director, Khandi Gibson.

“We were supposed to start at 11:00 am and the residents started showing up from 8:30 that morning. This just goes to show how beneficial these community initiatives are and how important it is for us to partner with a resort-like Sandals. I want to say a very big thank you to the team for not just supporting FOAM but the Nassau Village community at large. We are grateful,” she said.

A press release from Sandals Resorts stated that the company makes it their business to take care of the communities in which they operate, with the company engaging in the holistic upliftment of the underserved for more than three decades.

“We are always looking for meaningful ways to enrich the local communities. These initiatives mean more to us than just issuing items, it is our way of helping vulnerable individuals turn the tide of their lives and become empowered people. We are committed to this cause,” said Renee Deleon-Lightbourn, public relations manager at the resort.

Deleon shared that the resort plans to lend support to a different community each month and will make a selection based on the urgency of their needs.

“We do receive a lot of requests from various persons and entities and we will be answering the calls according to what the needs are and what we can give. Fortunately for us, we have been able to foster some strong relationships with key stakeholders over the years, so we are kept in the know,” she said.

She further stated that Sandals Royal Bahamian has no plans to pull the brakes on their philanthropic exploits, and they are excited about the positive transformation that their partnership with communities will generate.
