NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Christmas is a time of generosity, and for many children, it’s a chance to experience the magic of the season—whether through gifts, kindness, or the warmth of the community. Thanks to the Sandals Foundation, these children were able to experience all of this at once.
For over a decade, the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International (SRI), has been dedicated to fostering community partnerships and building strong bonds with local stakeholders to spread love and joy across the Caribbean. This year, the Foundation’s annual holiday initiatives once again demonstrated its commitment to uplifting others, and bringing hope and joy to children throughout the region.
In collaboration with the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), the Sandals Foundation helped make this Christmas special for over 300 inner-city children from various organizations and communities. This was part of the RBPF’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Police Headquarters on East Street. The Sandals Foundation provided warm meals, festive cheer, and a sense of belonging to the children in attendance.
Among the children were residents from several children’s homes on the island, including Bilney Lane Children’s Home, Ranfurly Home for Children, Children’s Emergency Hostel, and the Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home.
Chief Superintendent of Police Darvy Pratt, who also serves as the Director of Community Policing Services, expressed his gratitude for the Sandals Foundation’s involvement, noting that the event would have been difficult to execute without their support.
“We do a walkabout in the communities, and during these walks, we are able to identify the dire needs of the people, especially our children. Coming out of COVID, many families are still not back on their feet, and it would have been very challenging to feed and give back to this many without the Sandals Foundation. I am so happy that they decided to come on board for a second year in a row,” he said.
The event brought together a vibrant mix of children, community leaders, government officials, and law enforcement representatives, all filled with anticipation and holiday spirit. As the countdown to the tree lighting began, the air was thick with excitement and joy.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live performances by local children, prize distributions, and a heartwarming sense of unity that transcended the holiday season.
Incoming Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles also praised the partnership with Sandals.
“We have been partnering with the business community for many years, and we are so elated that this great brand, Sandals, has decided to partner with us again to give back to our community’s children. We are always excited about these positive relationships and the positive impact they create,” she said.
The Sandals Foundation remains committed to making the Christmas season brighter for those who need it most.
