Robinson forms tourism consultancy company

Fired Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Bain and Grants Town Member of Parliament (MP) Travis Robinson has established a consultancy company to aid investors with “setting up shop” in The Bahamas.

Robinson made the revelation to Eyewitness News hours after he delivered an impassioned address in Parliament, calling for a review of the Westminster System in which The Bahamas currently operates.

Robinson was fired along with three others from their government-appointed post for voting against the 2018/2019 Budget, which paves the way for an increase in value-added tax (VAT) from 7.5 per cent to 12 per cent.

“I have a lot of avenues that I can take and job offers, I will be going into private businesses,” Robinson said.

“I have launched my new business which I expect will  catapult me as a tourism consultant  for domestic and international investors.”

Robinson said he believes there is a need for more consultation as investors explore opportunities in The Bahamas.

“One of the things I think we all would agree to is the red tape associated with getting a passport, NIB letter or any government documentation,” he said.

“Imagine an investor who fell in love with the country … that persons would be lost in going through the ropes so it’s going to be a highly demanding area that I am going into.”

Robinson also addressed challenges in the tourism sector particularly a deficit in “heads in beds” visitors which he said won’t be addressed by mega-resorts.

“The new direction will be bed and breakfast operations and opportunities for local Bahamians to accommodate guest and I want to also assist in that area,” he said.

“When we look at locals being able to tap into the tourism market to diversify the economy we can simply go into untapped areas of the same market.”

Robinson said he also been approached for several job opportunities, but for now, he said, his options are open.
