The lone female occupant of a residence in Wilson Track was arrested by police after suspected cocaine was found in a bedroom in her home.
The seizure was a result of Operation Arrest launched by the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) in conjunction with The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Friday night.
The operation targeted inner-city communities in the wake of the shooting death of seven-year-old Camryn Cooper, who was shot and killed earlier this week. Police reported that he was caught in the cross-fire of an ongoing drug war in the area.
Leading the operation was Officer-in-Charge of the South Central Division Superintendent Mark Barret, who said, police have saturated the area.
Supt. Barrett refuted claims that police are reactionary when it come to dealing with serious crime.
“Police are always consistently conducting a number of operations in a number of areas and we work along with residents on a daily basis to stomp out crime,” Barret explained.
During the search, police also uncovered a significant amount of suspected drugs, wrapped in foil packages.
“What you see here in this area is a social crime issue,” he said.
“A number of persons here are disadvantaged and fall into that life of crime … their parents were involved in the same crime and it is handed down and we are trying our best to address it.”
Those arrested in Friday’s drug bust are expected to be charged sometime next week.
