NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police are investigating a suicide attempt in Grand Bahama on Saturday.

According to reports, officers were alerted that a woman was found in the sea attempting to take her own life shortly before 9pm on Saturday in the Williams Town area.

Family members, bystanders, and officers assisted in the matter and she was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital by Emergency Medical Services.

She remains under the care of doctors.

The latest incident comes just days after police reported the attempted suicide of a 29-year-old man in Eight Mile Rock last Thursday.

According to reports, police were called to a residence shortly after midnight on Graveyard Corner, Pinedale, where they found the man with apparent abrasions to the neck.

Police said a rope found hanging from a tree was retrieved.

This is a very sad situation and unfortunately a result of the stress and hopelessness brought on be the mishandling of the current situation. It seem as if there was no thought taken to the mental issues that a continued lockdown and the financial stress it would cause. The uncertainty of not knowing how you will be able to provide for your family and oneself causes people to do desperate things. This unfortunately will continue because of the government’s approach in fighting this “pandemic”. There is no sensible plan to get the economy going again and as a result more of this will occur.
