Police nabs man with illegal firearm and dangerous drugs

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 24-year-old resident of Derby Road, Big Pond was arrested on Monday on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and dangerous drugs.

According to police reports, shortly before 6:00 p.m., Mobile Division Officers were on patrol on Wilson Tract when they spotted a man in the area of a carwash.

The man, upon seeing the officers, began acting in a suspicious manner and began to run.

Officers observed the man as he threw a firearm into a nearby yard.

The Officers gave chase, caught the man and recovered the firearm, a 9-millimetre pistol, which contained 10 rounds of ammunition.

Police searched of the area where the man had been standing, and recovered a plastic bag with three rounds of ammunition and a small quantity of suspected marijuana.

This man is expected to be formally charged before a magistrate court this week.
