Police investigate alleged suicide attempt involving 54-year-old man in Abaco

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Police in Abaco are investigating an alleged suicide attempt after a 54-year-old man was found unresponsive at his residence in Dundas Town and later transferred for emergency medical treatment.

Police are investigating an alleged suicide attempt that occurred on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, at a residence in Dundas Town.

According to preliminary reports, shortly after 6:00 p.m., medical personnel contacted police and reported that a male was unresponsive at the Marsh Harbour Healthcare Centre following an alleged suicide attempt. Officers responded to the clinic but were unable to interview the victim, as he was receiving medical attention.

A local physician advised officers that the 54-year-old victim would be airlifted to New Providence for further medical treatment and evaluation. His injuries were described as serious and potentially life-threatening.

The initial investigation revealed that the victim’s wife discovered him at the residence with an object around his neck in an apparent attempt to strangle himself. She reportedly removed the object with assistance from her daughter and another male, after which he was transported to the clinic for medical assistance.

The investigation continues.
