NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Princes Margaret Hospital (PMH) Dialysis Unit was gifted six dialysis machines last week, as it seeks to replace, upgrade and backup its current supply.
The “significant boost” contained six Fresenius 2008T Hemodialysis Machine with Bibag for Hemodialysis treatments and was facilitated by Coral Pharmaceuticals Limiteda, which represents Renal Dynamics in The Bahamas.
According to a press release from the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA), Renal Dynamics has been supporting dialysis clinics and units throughout the region for some 25 years. The provider reportedly facilitates training programs while selling and supporting hemodialysis machines, supplies and peritoneal dialysis products.
The release explains the donation supports the need for more modern dialysis machines for the Princess Margaret Hospital Dialysis Unit. Each device has the capacity to treat an estimated three patients per day.
The refurbished equipment is reportedly valued at over $60,000 USD, including the cost of delivery, shipping, installation, and training for nurses.
Making the presentation on behalf of Renal Dynamics was Mr. Nicholas Schweickert, Director of Operations. Receiving the dialysis machines on behalf of the hospital were representatives from the PHA, the Supplies Management Agency and the Princess Margaret Hospital Dialysis team. Also present were Paul Bevans and Shenika Taylor, the Director and CEO respectively of Coral Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Edwards expressed gratitude on behalf of the PHA and the Dialysis Unit to the representatives of Coral Pharmaceuticals and Renal Dynamics for the generous donation. He noted the ongoing support by Renal Dynamics “demonstrates the necessity of private entities partnering with the PHA to enhance the quality of care offered”.
