NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A Royal Bahamas Police Force officer is under investigation after a tourist alleged he was asked for a bribe to avoid paying a traffic ticket.
The tourist shared a video of the encounter on TikTok, where the officer can be heard saying the exchange “can’t be too obvious,” and directing the tourist away from other officers to continue the interaction.
In a statement, police confirmed the matter is being investigated.
“The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) advises the public that it is aware of a video circulating on social media depicting a police road check and an interaction between officers and members of the public on Shirley Street.
Following a thorough review of the video, the RBPF has deemed it necessary to investigate the matter.
The RBPF further reminds the public that any alleged verbal remarks or conduct shown in the video do not reflect the standards, values, or professionalism of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. The matter remains under active investigation.”
