Letters to the Editor: The Cost of Condoning Wrong

Dear Editor,

Our society is at a crossroads where silence has become complicity, and complacency has allowed wrong to thrive unchecked. It is high time we confront the destructive patterns undermining our integrity, accountability, and transparency as a nation, starting from leadership to workplaces and into our daily lives.

To our leaders: It is not enough to speak of justice and righteousness. The public demands action, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to integrity. Leaders who overlook misconduct, shield corruption or excuse injustice betray their oath and the trust of the people. As Proverbs 29:12 warns, “If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.”

In the workplace, a culture of gossip and the condoning of wrongdoing erode trust and unity. Gossip is not harmless chatter; it is a venom that divides, destroys reputations, and stifles productivity. Romans 1:29 condemns those who sow discord: “They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips.” It is imperative that employers and employees alike foster environments rooted in respect, truth, and ethical behavior.

To the general public: We must cease the harmful cycle of spreading gossip and hatred. Words have the power to heal or to wound, to unite or to divide. Proverbs 16:28 reminds us, “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.” Let us instead speak words that build up, challenge wrong, and encourage growth.

Condoning wrong is not an act of neutrality; it is complicity. Confirming wrong—calling it out and addressing it—requires courage, but it is the only path to redemption. Our moral compass must guide us to be better leaders, coworkers, and citizens.

This is a soul-searching appeal to all. Let us no longer tolerate wrong in any form, but instead embrace the principles of accountability, integrity, and transparency. The change we seek begins within us.
