Letter to the PM: Oil drilling in The Bahamas from the perspective of a nine-year-old

Dear Prime Minister Minnis,

I am a nine-year-old Bahamian citizen and I am deeply concerned about this situation with oil drilling in The Bahamas.

What are we doing, risking so much on this? We cannot afford it. I cannot stand the fact that people in the government are risking my and many other young peoples’ futures. It is a dangerous thing and I beg you not to do it.

So many people have jobs in fishing, tourism, boats and many other jobs that need and depend on our water and beaches.

I have heard in a more recent speech that you are “totally against” oil drilling and are stuck in an agreement. It is not worth it.

We need freedom of information. We need to see the terms of agreement.

We have one job and that is to protect and serve our country. This will not help us.

From a person that cares to another, please do not ruin my future.

Thank you so much for your time.
