The country’s murder count jumped by one early Saturday morning after a man was shot dead.
According to police, shortly before 2:00 a.m., the man was standing on Joe Farrington Road near to Integrity Road, when he was approached by another male armed with a firearm who shot him before fleeing on foot.
The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
New Providence are also investigating a traffic accident which left a man dead on Saturday just two hours later.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 a.m. on John F. Kennedy Drive near Lake View Cemetery. According to reports, a blue Honda Accord and a 2003 Cadillac Escalade were involved in an accident where a male passenger was ejected from the Honda.
Paramedics were called to the scene but were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospital and are listed in stable condition. Officers from the Traffic Division are continuing investigation into this matter.
In other crime, police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving two armed robberies, which occurred on Friday.
In the first incident, shortly after 7:00pm a man was walking through a track road in the vicinity of BPL on Soldier Road, when he was approached by a male armed with a firearm. The man was robbed him of cash and a cell phone before his assailant fled on foot.
In the second incident, shortly after 8:00pm, a man was walking on Baillou Hill Road near to Cordeaux Avenue, when he was approached by two men, one armed with a firearm, who robbed him of cash and a cell phone, before running away.
Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
