NASSAU, BAHAMAS: A 36-year-old Indian man died after becoming trapped and severely injured beneath several metal plates during an alleged accident aboard a vessel travelling from Grand Bahama to New Providence on Saturday, 12th September, 2026.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m., police were alerted by an official from a shipping company that a male employee had been seriously injured in an accident on board the vessel and had subsequently died.
Police were also informed that the vessel was scheduled to arrive in New Providence at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, 13th September, 2026.
Upon the vessel’s arrival, investigators, accompanied by officials from the Bahamas Maritime Authority, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Bahamas Customs, and the Department of Immigration, boarded the vessel and spoke with the Chief Security Officer.
Preliminary information indicates that while the vessel was en route to New Providence, security personnel were alerted to an accident in the engine room. Upon arriving at the location, they discovered two employees assisting a male employee who had become trapped and was severely injured beneath several metal plates.
With help from additional crew members, they freed the victim and administered medical assistance. However, despite these efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
