Chavano “Buddy” Hield has been relishing his new role as the Sacramento Kings’ starting shooting guard over the past few games.
On Monday night, Hield posted 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a 123-113 win over the Miami Heat. Hield has now scored 20 or more points in the Kings’ last three games, his longest streak since entering the National Basketball Association (NBA).
“I’ve just been running the floor and my teammates have been finding me,” Hield said about his recent play.
“It’s real fun when we get it rolling. Guys are cheering for one another, we’re excited on each play and we roll. We just have to take it to another level on defense. We expect great things from this club. We had a great training camp. I know we didn’t show it in the preseason, but we always expected good things from this club.
“We know we can get even better too. We’re missing ‘Bogie’ (Bogdan Bagdonovic), so we’ll see how well things click when he gets in.”
Hield is averaging just over 17 points and five rebounds through seven games this season. He’s also averaging 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Earlier in the week, the Kings exercised the team option on the third-year guard.
