Government targets third quarter start for new Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs Clay Sweeting says the government is working to secure a contractor for the construction of a new Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera, with financing already in place and preliminary works expected to begin by the third quarter of this year.

Speaking at the North Eleuthera Business Outlook on Friday, Sweeting stated: “We are in the process of identifying a construction company for the development of a brand-new Glass Window Bridge, which will have significant economic and cultural impacts on the entire island of Eleuthera.”

He continued: “The Expression of Interest (EOI) has already been issued. Seven contractors have applied and visited the Glass Window Bridge site this week to assess the scope of work and prepare their bid packages. Financing has already been secured, and we are aiming to begin preliminary works by the third quarter.”

Sweeting also highlighted that the government has committed over $200 million in infrastructure works for Eleuthera. “I did some calculations, and when you add up the projects currently underway, committed, or out for tender, we’re looking at over $200 million in direct government investment in infrastructure on the island,” he said. “We’re pushing to increase that number, but it shows the level of focus and commitment the government has for Eleuthera.”
