Girls pick up second win in Puerto Rico

The Bahamas under-17 girl’s national basketball team yesterday won its second game of the Centrobasket girls’ championships in Puerto Rico. The Bahamas dominated Barbados in an 83-41 win.

Leading the way for the Bahamas was Rehema Collins with 17 points and 10 rebounds, her second double of the tournament thus far. Laverne Armbrister scored 10 points and 4 steals, and Antonicia Moultrie had 12 rebounds and six steals.

Team Bahamas had their best shooting performance of the tournament, going 43 percent from the field.  Danae Malcolm, one of the players, said that this was their best game to date.

“This game we were more patient” she said. “We did more on defense, keep our hands up and did things fundamentally”.

She noted that the team was especially committed to winning the game in celebration of Independence Day.
