Giants win NPBA title

The Commonwealth Giants won back to back games over the weekend, to capture the New Providence Basketball Association (NPBA) Division I title.

On Friday, the Giants beat the Rockets basketball club 101-88 at the A. F. Adderley Gymnasium, and followed that up with a 96-85 win to clinch the league title. Gamaliel Rose had 24 points to lead the Giants in game three. Commonwealth Bank took advantage of its size on the inside and scored 60 points in the game against the Rockets.

The Giants also scored 23 second chance points, compared to just 16 from the Rockets. Michael Bain had 15 points in the win and both D’Shon Taylor and Jervonne Atkins scored 12 points each for the Giants.

Livingston Munnings had 27 points, 14 rebounds and four assists in the loss for the Rockets.

Taylor led the Giants in the clinching game with 27 points. Bain added 21 and Tehran Cox chipped in with 12.

The Giants led by as much as 22 points in the game. And although the Rockets cut the lead to single digits, the Giants’ lead was never threatened.

Tomeko Moxey had 24 in the loss for the Rockets.

The Division II Championships also came to an end over the weekend. The Breezes High Flyers completes a four-game sweep of the ALIV Buckets, picking up a 100-99 win in the final game of the series on Saturday.
