NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The United States Coast Guard detained several Cuban nationals on a small sailboat in waters off Dog Rocks in the Cay Sal Bank on Sunday.
Eyewitness News understands more than 10 Cuban nationals were onboard.
The US Coast Guard handed over the Cubans to the defense force.
The group has since been transferred to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.
In a statement, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force said the Cuban Embassy in Nassau was notified of the incident.
This is the third group of Cuban nationals to be apprehended this month.
On March 4, the defense force spotted a capsized vessel in waters around three nautical miles south of Cay Sal and retrieved 13 Cubans.
According to reports, one man was dead.
The day before, the US Coast Guard apprehended six Cubans on Anguilla Cay.
